Here at BS Fixings, we are excited to announce that we have a new product in our catalogue! Rooftec Flex EPDM Lead Replacement is an innovative product that can be used instead of traditional lead. It can be used for a range of applications, including roof abutments, chimneys, skylights, ridges, and much more. It is an EPDM-based lead alternative, with a core of expanded aluminium mesh that offers outstanding strength, life expectancy, and flexibility. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a type of synthetic rubber that is waterproof and durable, perfect for flat roof structures.

In many cases, the Rooftec Flex provides more advantages than traditional lead, making it an ideal product for numerous construction projects and flat roofing systems.

Benefits of Rooftec Flex Lead Replacement

Environmentally friendly

A key benefit of Rooftec Flex is its eco-friendly quality. Both EPDM and aluminium are environmentally friendly.

UV and Ozone resistant

Rooftec Flex has been manufactured to be UV and Ozone resistant, meaning that it has a long life expectancy. Even with continuous exposure to UV rays, the product will not deteriorate or alter in any way, making it an incredibly high-performing product.

Flexible and malleable

For ease of use and simple application, it is a very thin and lightweight material, to ensure the end-user can fit the product with a seamless finish. This also means that it can be used for numerous projects, no matter what the dimensions or shape of the mounting surface is.

Long life expectancy

As mentioned above, Rooftec Flex is both UV and Ozone resistant, which offers long-term durability. This lead replacement product can last up to 40 years, with the correct application and maintenance.

No scrap value

Unlike traditional led which has a high resell value, Rooftec Flex has no scrap value, which prevents theft.

Non-toxic

The material composition of the product makes it non-toxic, which is a key benefit for the health and safety of all users coming into contact with it.

To suit a range of consumer requirements, the product is available in three colours; black, anthracite grey, and lead grey, which are available to purchase on our website. We sell this item in rolls of 5m and 10m, with a variety of widths to choose from to suit your project.

Application Guidelines

As Rooftec Flex is a substitute for traditional lead, it acts and performs in the same way. Therefore, when installing the product, it should be handled the same way as traditional methods.

  1. Before applying the lead alternative, the designated surface should be completely dry and clear of grease, oil, and other contaminants.
  2. If it is being adhered to a porous surface, a primer should be used beforehand to produce a clean and smooth finish.
  3. If you have traditional lead tools, these can be used to apply Rooftec Flex. Due to its thin and lightweight qualities, you can also apply some parts of it by hand.
  4. Rooftec Flex can easily be cut with heavy-duty scissors or a sharp knife.
  5. If you’re wanting to use this product on walls, Rooftec flashing clips, nails, or rivets should be used to keep the roll in place.
  6. To enhance strength and stability for roof coverings, the edges of Rooftec Flex can be folded.
