What Are Kick and Push Plates?
When it comes to fixings and fastenings, BS Fixings is the place to be, but did you know that we also stock materials for homes and gardens too? Our product range is not just limited to screws, wall ties, and banding, we also stock items such as gardening tools, hose pipes, and even graffiti remover.
One product category that we stock utilised by pretty much everyone every day, especially if they work within a public building, and that is kick and push plates. These simple yet effective flat pieces of material are designed to prevent wear and tear on doors caused by people actively pushing or kicking the door to open it. In the long run, installing these plates will reduce the need of replacing doors that have undergone a lot of usage.
Kick Plates
Kick plates are used at the bottom of doors to protect the surface from scuffs and dirt that may appear after people pass through. They are designed to be attached to a ‘push’ door, as these are commonly held open by foot to let people through, and for users that might be carrying objects with both hands. Not only are kick plates functional, but they can also be used for aesthetic reasons too. Especially for domestic installations, kick plates can help elevate the look of your doors within your home. Brass-finished kick plates are commonly used with wooden doors, to add style and a subtle feeling of elegance.
Kick plates are generally made out of stainless steel, to withstand corrosion and defects caused by chemicals and water. By manufacturing these plates out of stainless steel, they can be utilised in a wide range of industries, especially in commercial settings.
Push Plates
Similarly, as the name suggests, push plates are installed on the front of a push door, where your hand would usually open it. They can also be fixed to both sides of a swinging door, to make sure each side of the door is protected. As the same with kick plates, push plates are used on doors that undergo vigorous usage. They offer a solid, flat surface for people to push, which helps to prevent general wear and tear on the door surface, which may turn into unrepairable damage.
Unlike kick plates which can be straight cut, push plates tend to have curved corners, to remove any sharp edges that may harm the hands.

Here at BS Fixings, our kick and push plates are manufactured out of high-quality 430-grade stainless steel, to be long-lasting and robust. We stock both of these plates in a range of standard sizes, to fit many doors. They are 1.2mm thick to withstand heavy usage, providing a durable surface that doesn’t protrude too far out from the door. To attach the plates to a door, we have designed the plates with 4-6 screw holes, to be used with countersunk screws which we supply with the plates.
If you are interested in purchasing either of these plates, please feel free to browse our website. For more information or questions about our products, contact us today on 03330 117818 or email info@bsfixings.co.uk and our team will be more than happy to help.
