We are excited to announce that we have a new product added to our helical wall tie range – Helical Timber Frame Ties in 5mm! Sold in boxes of 100, these helical ties are suitable for a range of timber frame construction projects. These ties can be used to attach timber frame components to brick or masonry structures in new builds or established properties where insufficient ties have been used. Wall ties are crucial in building and construction developments, as they absorb the movement between the internal and external leaves, overall strengthening the infrastructure of the building.
These new ties are said to be the most flexible helical wall ties on the market, manufactured out of AISI304 austenitic stainless steel that accommodates differential movement between the brickwork and timber frame. If you have discovered poorly fitted cavity wall ties in a pre-existing timber frame, then this product offers a simple and effective solution! Each of the ties are designed with a deep-trough helix/twist that ensures the tie is secure in both of the leaves, as well as providing multiple drip points to discourage water from reaching the inner timber structure.
So, how exactly do you install these helical timber frame ties? Find below a video tutorial on how the ties are fitted, and some step-by-step instructions to help guide you.
Installation Instructions
(Please note that these ties are only suitable for cavities up to 60-150mm wide, and used in buildings up to 4 storeys high)
- Corkscrew the helical tie into the desired location, making sure to drive it 35mm into the uprights of the timber frame.
- If insulating materials are being used within the cavity, you can place an insulation clip along the tie to hold the insulation against the internal wall.
- To secure the tie, you can manually hammer it in place or use the SDS Tool for Helical Timber Frame Ties.
- If you plan to use the SDS tool, make sure to change your SDS drill to the hammer setting. After inserting the SDS tool into the drill head, place the exposed end of the tie into the other side of the tool.
- Use the SDS drill to drive the rest of the tie into the cavity wall, until it accommodates the countersink of the SDS tool.
- Remove the drill and tool and cover the visible hole with the most appropriate mortar to keep the tie hidden.
We offer these helical timber frame ties in 3 lengths – 200mm, 225mm, and 250mm, to be utilised in a variety of cavity wall depths. If you are in the process of constructing a new build or are renovating a pre-existing property, then these ties are a fantastic choice for new tie installations or replacements.
